Ratan is an Air Force Pilot and lives a wealthy lifestyle with his money-lender father, Dayashankar. While journeying home for a holiday with his father, he is approached by an Army Officer, Ramu, who asks him to deliver a attaché case to his sister, Rukmini, who lives in the same town as Dayashankar, to which he agrees to do so. Ramu returns to the front, is seriously wounded and hospitalized. When he recovers he returns home to find out that his sister has passed away, and his niece, Ratna, who he had last seen as a 10-year old is missing. He is upset with the Pilot and hopes to extract his vengeance whenever he comes face to face with him. He meets with the daughter of a rickshaw driver, Gulabi, who permits him to draw the rickshaw. One day they come across a pregnant woman, Chanda, lying on the street, they assist her, she gives birth to a baby boy, and comes to live with them.

A modern retelling of the classic folktale about the hare and the tortoise. Hard-working yet timid Rajaram has a secret crush on his neighbor. Before he gets the courage to tell her how he feels, fast-talking Bashu swoops in.

After her family gets murdered, Chitra, a lonely girl, spends a year in an asylum. She is petrified when she witnesses another murder and refuses to believe that it is her hallucination.

Rajaram P. Joshi (Naseeruddin Shah) is a middle-class Clerk living in a chawl in Bombay. He is secretly in love with his neighbor, Sandhya Karnik (Deepti Naval) but is unable to disclose his love for her. Rajaram`s fast-tallking friend, Bashudev (Farooq Shaikh) comes for a visit and makes himself at home. Bashudev starts wooing Sandhya and soon both in love with each other. The Karniks decide to marry Sandhya and Bashudev, much to misery of Rajaram. But on the day of the engagement, Bashudev disappears, and the engagement is called-off. Rajaram offers to marry the devastated Sandhya, but she tells him that she has been very intimate with Bashudev, and is pregnant, and it remains to be seen if Rajaram will accept Sandhya or otherwise.

Orphaned Roshni lives a poor-lifestyle with her maternal uncle, Gulal, and his wife, and they do Nautanki (singing and dancing) from village to village for a living. She is in love with Sharad and both want to get married. Lusty Thakur Gajraj Singh, who will shortly become an MLA, takes a liking to Roshni and, together with bandit Bhairav Singh, abduct Roshni in her bridal gear, killing Sharad, and having their way with her. Roshni survives, decides to complain to the Police, not only refuse to take any action, but the Police Inspector in Charge also has his way with her. Humiliated, she is left on the streets, rescued by kind-hearted bandit, Shankara, who recruits her and she swears to avenge her humiliation by killing her molesters. She unleashes a wave of terror attacks, prompting the government to assign Inspector Ramesh Kumar to arrest her at any and all costs. The question remains, does Roshni have enough time to carry out her vengeance before being arrested by Ramesh Kumar?
